Soe, Timor

Soe ( Soe, So'e ) is the capital of the administrative district ( kabupaten ) Südzentraltimor ( province of East Nusa Tenggara ) in the Indonesian part of West Timor.

Geography and population

The town forms a separate Kecamatan ( sub-district ) and has 39,285 inhabitants ( 2010). The altitude here is about 800 m.

The Kecamatan is divided into 13 Desa Cendana ( 3,617 inhabitants in 2010 ), Soe ( 3860 ), Oebesa ( 3169 ), Kobekamusa ( 1640 ), Nunumeu ( 4548 ), Oekefan ( 3503 ), Taubneno ( 2990 ), Kampung Baru ( 1,520 ), Karang Siri ( 5064 ), Nonohonis ( 4469 ), Kota Baru ( Baru city, 1989 ), Kuatae ( 1255 ) and Noemeto ( 1661 ).

Economy

Soe is a starting point for tourists for trips to West Timor, for example, to northern highest mountain in West Timor, the Mutis.
