Sofia Kovalevskaya Award

The Sofia Kovalevskaya Prize of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is named after the mathematician Sofia Kovalevskaya (1850-1891) and is awarded every two years by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation since 2002.

The price is up to 1.65 million euros doped ( up to 2006 1.2 million euro ) and thus by the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is the third highest honor awarded in German research prize. The prize money is used to build a research group at a German research institute or university and to use specific projects within six years.

The prize is awarded to scientists from abroad or researching abroad German scientists. About a third of award winners are German, are being brought back with the price to Germany.
