Sofu Teshigahara

Sofu Teshigahara (Japanese敕使 河 原 苍 风; born December 17, 1900 in the prefecture of Tokyo, Japan, † September 5, 1979 in Japan) was a Japanese painter and Ikebana teacher.

Life

Born in the year 33 of the Meiji period, the son of Ikebana artist Teshigahara Wafu Teshigahara founded in 1927 his own Ikebana Sogetsu School - ryū (草 月 流, Eng. Sogetsu School of Ikebana ). Teshigaharas teaching approach was that an Ikebana artist after he has learned all the techniques, both his personal feelings space in the design of ikebana arrangements as well, besides the use of plant material "other" may incorporate material.

1952 Teshigahara was a member of the jury at the International Flower Exhibition in New York City. In 1954 he participated in the Flower Exhibition to mark the 400th anniversary of São Paulo in Brazil part. In 1958 he founded the Sogetsu School of Art.

Teshigahara sofu is the father of the late 2001 Japanese film director Hiroshi Teshigahara. He died in the year 54 of the Showa period.
