Sōgi

Iio Sogi (Japanese饭 尾 宗 只, short and Sogi ,宗 只; * 1421, † September 1, 1502 ) was a Japanese Buddhist monk and Renga poets.

About the early years SoGIS nothing is known. He apparently lived as a Zen Buddhist monk in Kyoto, before he became famous in the 1450s as a professional renga poet. From 1466 to 1472 he lived in the eastern provinces of Japan, after which he returned to Kyoto, where he published several collections of his poems. A journey in 1480 after Kyūshū was reflected in the diary Tsukushi no michi no ki (筑紫 道 记).

Especially his two Renga collections Minase Sangin Hyakuin were known (水 无 瀬 三 吟 百 韵, 1488, with his students and Socho Shōhaku ) and Yuyama Sangin Hyakuin (汤山 三 吟 百 韵; 1491 ). Overall Sogi left more than ninety works, including next - Renga collections, diaries and literary critical and theoretical writings.
