Sohland am Rotstein ( officially: Sohland a Rotstein ) is a district of the small Saxon town of Reichenbach / OL in the district of Görlitz. The mountain Rotstein is especially to distinguish it from about 30 km away, also located in Upper Lusatia Sohland on the Spree.

Geography and transport

Sohland is a classic long-drawn Waldhufendorf (consisting of Obersohland, Mittelsohland and Niedersohland ) at the foot of the striking Rotsteins ( 455 m above sea level. NN ), the almost 8 km along the Black Schoeps extends. The village is about 5 km east of Lobau and about 10 km west of Görlitz.

The Federal Highway 6 and the railway line Görlitz -Dresden run through the town, the nearest regional stations are in Reichenbach / OL and Zoblitz. The Federal Highway 4 runs north from Sohland and can be reached via the 12 km distant connection Weissenberg. The village street was built in 1846.

History

History

On the Rotsteingipfel was in the period between the 9th and 12th centuries, a Slavic fortification. The documentary was first mentioned on May 7, 1241 Oberlausitzer border certificate as " Zalom ". Already in 1546 there was a school with teacher in place. By 1600, five manors (three in Obersohland and two in Niedersohland ) are detected. Due to severe devastation of war unrest in the 15th century ( Hussite ) and in the 17th century ( Thirty Years War ), many people lost their lives and fled. 1802 fell 18 Buildings (including Mittelsohland manor, rectory and school) a large village by fire. In 1847 the port was carried out on the railway line Lobau - Görlitz the Saxon -Silesian Railway Company, but without its own railway station. In 1905 there were in the first place telephone connection and from 1911 Sohland was electrified.

On April 1, 1939, the formerly independent communities Obersohland, Mittelsohland and Niedersohland merged to form community Sohland am Rotstein. This was integrated at the decision of the municipal council and the city council of Reichenbach 1 January 2014 to Reichenbach.
