Sohland an der Spree

Sohland on the Spree River ( Upper Sorbian Zalom ) is a place and the associated community in the southeast Saxony to the Czech border. With almost 7,500 inhabitants, it is one of the most populous villages of the district of Bautzen and also one of the largest villages in Saxony. Sohland is right on the main road 98 with following the federal highway 4 via Bautzen. Many half-timbered houses, including the oldest half-timbered house of the district of Bautzen, dot the village.

Geography

Sohland is located about 15 km south of the district town of Bautzen in the Lusatian mountains. The altitude of the municipality extends from 280 m ( Spreetal after Schirgiswalde ) to 487 m ( Kälbersteine ​​). The distance between two points is only 1500 m.

The municipality is bordered by Schirgiswalde - Kirschau in the north, OppachEquipment in the east, Šluknov ( Schluckenau ), Velky Šenov ( Grossschönau ) and Lipová ( Hainspach ) in the south and Steinigtwolmsdorf in the West.

History

How accurate was the village Sohland, is currently being investigated in more detail. An older theory came from a Sorbian founding of the village, this being from the name Zalom (Location on / behind break / swamp ) was derived, which can also be detected for Sohland am Rotstein. Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the village Sohland is an artistic creation, and shows the sky bridge leading over the Spree framed by two birches.   • Sohland has a small museum in a historic Umgebindehaus ( Pacher grove street 19a), which is located in Oberndorf. The half-timbered house, built approximately around 1750, is the oldest building of its kind in the district of Bautzen dar.
