Soilwork

Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band. It counts with In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity to the style-defining bands of the genre. Characteristic features of the younger band's history are clear vocal parts and the keyboard melodies that make up a large part of the music in songs such as Light the Torch or As We Speak.

History

The band was founded in late 1995 as Inferior Breed, before 1997 its name to " Soilwork " changed.

The first two albums released by Listenable Records were successful, but the breakthrough came in 2001 with A Predator's Portrait, the first album of the band, which was released on Nuclear Blast. 2002 and 2003 were followed on an annual basis the album Natural Born Chaos and Figure Number Five. 2005, the next studio album, Stabbing the drama was released. After the subsequent tour guitarist and main songwriter Peter Wichers left the band in December 2005 to devote himself to music production.

Simultaneously to Farewell Wichers was announced that drummer Dirk Verbeuren, the only previously played as a session musician with Soilwork, now join as a full member of the band. 2007 was unveiled as the new guitarist Daniel Antonsson of pathos and Dimension Zero. He had already played some concerts on the last tour with Soilwork. On 22 October 2007 appeared with Sworn to a Great Divide another album of Soilwork. The songs were mainly written by Strid, Antonsson and Frenning were involved in about half of the pieces, Karlsson worked only on the piece Sick Heart River. The album placed in the first week at position 148 of the U.S. Billboard charts.

In February 2008, guitarist Ola Frenning left the band because he did not get along by its own account, with the increasing presence of the live band. As a substitute for the ongoing tour David Andersson was presented.

Mid-September 2008 it was announced Peter Wichers ' return to the band. It was also Sylvain Coudret, Dirk Verbeurens bandmate in the French extreme metal band Scarve, presented as new guitarist. As part of this, the band split again by Daniel Antonsson.

On July 2, 2010 her new album was released under the name The Panic Broadcast. It is the first on which Sylvain Coudret is heard and was produced by Peter Wichers.

On 26 June 2012, the band announced on their Facebook page that guitarist Peter Wichers Soilwork has left due to " creative differences ". He was replaced by the long-time tour member David Andersson.

The ninth studio album The Living Infinite was released in Europe on March 1, 2013 as the double CD with 20 new songs. The first single Spectrum of Eternity was published on 20 December 2012 on the YouTube channel of Nuclear Blast and available for free download. The Living Infinite received very good reviews and was, for example, awarded by the German music magazine Metal Hammer Album of the month of March 2013. The album won through against well-known competitors such as Long Distance Calling, Saxon or by Pothead, who brought new releases on the market in the same month.
