Sokobanja
Sokobanja ( Serbian Cyrillic Сокобања ) is a Serbian spa town in the eponymous municipality in the district Zaječar.
The annual Accordion Festival Prva harmonica is held here and in the region Timok Krajina, famous restaurant Milošev Konak is located here.
Geography
The place is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Serbia, situated between the mountains and Rtanj Ozren. Through the town flows the river Sokobanjska Moravica with a large variety of fish. Nearby are the remains of the Roman fortress Sokograd.
West of Sokobanja is the Bovansko Jezero, an artificial lake, which is also used for tourism.
History
The center of town was built in the 16th century by the Ottomans. There are also many Turkish baths. The local school and the Serbian Orthodox Transfiguration Church was built in the 19th century.
