Sokol, Magadan Oblast

Sokol (Russian Сокол ) is an urban-type settlement in Magadan Oblast (Russia) with 4685 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is about 40 kilometers in a straight line north of Oblastverwaltungszentrum Magadan, from the city and from the coast of the Sea of ​​Okhotsk by a good 1000 m high mountain range separated. It is situated near the right bank of Uptar, a left tributary of the Chassyn, which in turn leads shortly before the Sea of ​​Okhotsk in the arm. Northeast of Sokol rises the Chassyn comb ( Chassynski Chrebet ), an arm of the Kolymagebirges also to over 1000 m.

History

In connection with the construction of the airport in Magadan in 1960 was in the immediate vicinity of a residential area, which was registered on 28 May 1962 as a place. On July 23, 1964, she was awarded the status of an urban-type settlement awarded.
