Sol Polito

Sol Polito ( born November 12, 1892 in Palermo, Sicily, † May 23, 1960 in Hollywood, actually Salvador Polito ) was an American cinematographer Italian origin.

Life

As Sol Polito was a child, his family emigrated to the U.S. and settled in New York City. After school he became a photographer and he got through this training access to the film. In the 1920s he made 13 films for the Hollywood star Harry Carey. Influenced by the German expressionist filmmakers he belonged in the 1930s to the outstanding cameramen. Especially with Michael Curtiz, he worked closely together and did the camera work in many adventure films with Errol Flynn.

Sol Polito was nominated three times for an Academy Award: for The Private Lives of Queen (1940 ), Sergeant York ( 1941) and Hero of the Skies ( 1943).
