Sol Yurick

Sol Yurick ( born January 18, 1925 in New York City as Solomon Yurick; † January 5, 2013 ) was an American writer.

Life

Sol Yurick was born into a Jewish working class family that was politically active. He served during World War II and was trained as a Surgical- technical assistants. He then studied at New York University, where he earned a degree in literature. Until the mid- 1960s he worked as a social worker at the welfare before he completely devoted himself to writing.

With the novel The Warriors Yurick debuted in 1965 as a writer. The story is a combination of the Greek Anabasis and the gang wars in New York City. Directed by Walter Hill, the story was filmed in 1979 with Michael Beck and James Remar under the title of The Warriors. In the same year, the novel was translated into German language and moved from Pabel publisher. In Germany was perceived as a sociological phenomenon with the release of the film of the novel by the news magazine Spiegel. So he was made an example responsible for youth violence. An implementation of the novel as a video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox released in 2005.

Until 1995, published by Yurick six other novels. His second, 1966 published novel was finished in 1999, directed by David Hugh Jones with Ben Kingsley, Amy Irving and Alec Baldwin in the lead roles under the title The Confession - The Confession filmed.

On January 5, 2013 Yurick died at the age of 87 years in Brooklyn, NYC from the effects of lung disease. He left behind his wife, a daughter and a grandchild.
