Solanki

The Solanki was a Hindu dynasty in Gujarat, which represented in North India of the 12th century temporarily a great power. Their capital city was Anhilwada ( Anhilvara ), today Patan, then one of the largest cities of India.

Your ancestor Mularaja Solanki (reigned ca 942/61-996 ) was supposedly the daughter son of the last Prince of local Chavda dynasty (ca. 746-961, Gurjara Rajputs ). The Solanki are also likely to be attributable to the Gurjara Rajputs because they originally belonged to the Fire Clan. However, they also claimed the Chalukya of Vatapi to have been in contact and are therefore alternatively referred to as ( Chalukya, Chaulukya ).

The Solanki often stood in the shadow of Paramara. Despite severe setbacks against the Paramara King Bhoja of Dhara in the 11th century and the often -mentioned attack on Somnath Mahmud of Ghaznis 1025/26 the Solanki empire eventually included in most of the 12th century all over Gujarat and south Rajasthan. The successful kings of that time were Jayasimha Siddharaja and Kumarapala ( descendant of a courtesan, and Jaina ), but even their governments were not free from uncertainties (eg succession dispute ).

Under the king Bhima II the Simple (r. 1178-1242 ), the empire fell apart, first due to the attacks of the Ghurids (by 1197, Muslims ) and other enemies. The king fled and lost successively control of his country. In its place, the Minister of Gender Vaghelas occurred (approx. 1222 to 1298, a collateral line of the royal house and Jains ), which finally in 1244 the last Solanki king dethroned.

The Solanki were the patrons of the famous Shiva temple of Somnath, which she built up after the terrible looting by Mahmud of Ghazni 1025/26 together with the Paramara again. In addition to construction of temples however, are those of water saving and port facilities to mention. Gujarat was a center of trade, and at least Bhimadeva I. King is famous for its promotion of foreign merchants. In scientific terms, the scholar Hemachandra, a Jain and consultants Kumarapalas to be mentioned.
