Solar storm of 1859

The solar storm of 1859 caused the largest ever scientifically observed magnetic storm on Earth.

From 28 August to 2 September 1859, occurred minutes long solar flares that have been observed among others by astronomer Richard Christopher Carrington. This was followed by coronal mass expectoration. They arrived 17 hours later the earth.
