Solid geometry

Solid Geometry is a branch of geometry and mathematics. It is concerned - in contrast to the planar geometry ( planimetry ) - with geometric shapes in the ( three-dimensional ) space. Instead of solid geometry, one also says chamber geometry or spatial geometry.

To stereometry include, among others, the calculation of the surface ( surface charge) or the lateral surface and volume ( volume calculations ) simple and compound geometric bodies, as well as the stereotomy.

Stereometry set in ancient Greece is one of the scientific areas that were of paramount importance. Thus, various well-known thinkers of this time trying to resolve the stereometric problem of doubling cube. Plato calls the state that the solid geometry should be included in addition to the planimetry in the scientific preparatory course even in his work.
