Solihull

Solihull [ ˌ sɒlɪ hʌl ] is a city in England in the United Kingdom. It counts 94 753 inhabitants (as of 2001) and is the seat of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull with more than 200,000 inhabitants. The city is part of the metropolitan county of West Midlands, is part of the agglomeration of Birmingham with more than 2,600,000 inhabitants and is situated between the cities of Birmingham and Coventry in the West to the East.

Historical

Counted yet in 1901 Solihull just 7,500 inhabitants. But in subsequent years should explode the population. This was mainly due to the fact that the neighboring city of Birmingham bursting at the seams and more and more people moved to Solihull, which made the city a kind of dormitory town for Birmingham. In the 1960s, emerged in the city center several new business complexes, where many historical buildings fell victim.

Traffic

Industry

Solihull is one of the priorities of the British automobile industry. Land Rover has a manufacturing plant in Solihull; the MG Rover Group had until its bankruptcy in April 2005 their seat and a factory. Solihull was strongly affected by the decline Rovers.
