Content

Ben Doldrums (Michael Douglas ) was a successful car dealer in New York. When he learns that there are irregularities in his heart and his doctor wants to carry out further investigation, his world changes. Further investigations he can never perform because he is afraid of the results. He begins to cheat on his wife Nancy (Susan Sarandon), who eventually divorces him. From fear of old age, he takes refuge in one- night stands with women who are much younger than he. In addition, he starts to cheat fellow dealers and customers, for which he is ultimately convicted and loses his dealers license. The prison sentence, he escapes only because of a high penalty.

When he is about to get his dealer license, he should Allyson, the daughter of his current girlfriend Jordan Karsch accompany as a character for an interview at the University. The film was shown in 2009 as part of the Toronto International Film Festival and from 7 May 2010 in American cinema. In Germany Solitary Man was not in the movies but was only released on DVD.
