Sologne

The Sologne is a forested landscape in central France. It covers 460,000 hectares over the Loiret, Loir -et -Cher and Cher in the Centre region.

By and large, the Sologne forest of barren flat, marsh, alluvial and heathland is characterized with its used for fishing ponds. This is due to its sand and clay bottom.

The Sologne is drained by the rivers Cosson, Beuvron and Sauldre.

The region is known for the horse race Solognote. Romorantin is the ancient capital of the Sologne.
