Solomon, Count of Cerdanya and Urgell

Salomon (Catalan Salomó, † probably 873 ) was a minister of the Carolingians in the Spanish market in the 9th century, who served as Count of Cerdanya. Are attributed to him also the counties of Urgell and Conflent.

In 863, Count of Cerdanya was Solomon ( Salomone ... Cerdaniensi comite ) sent by King Charles the Bald to Cordoba, to acquire the relics of St. Vincent of Saragossa there with the Caliph of al -Andalus. After the caliph and his governor of Zaragoza paid per 100 solidi, he could bring the relics of saints in the Frankish Empire, who received a new repository in the Abbey of Castres.

On March 22, 865 Salomon confirmed by judgment the possession of Prades and other towns in favor of the Abbey of Sainte -Marie de Lagrasse, who had once Sunifred Count I and his wife paid Ermesende the abbey. Since Prades was in the pagus Conflent, Solomon must have officiated as Count here. On April 23, 873 is the last time he testified in a document when he gave judgment in favor of the Abbey of Caunes.

The composed in the late 12th century and interspersed with legendary tales founding history of the Catalan national dynasty According 've Wilfried can the Hairy establish his rule in Barcelona by ( natione Gallicum Comitem Salomonem ) had killed in single combat before the " Gauls " Solomon, who for many years before his father of the same name ( actually Sunifred I. ) had displaced from the ancestral family estates. The Chronicle of San Juan de la Peña (14th cent.) Took over this story and called Salomon now as " French". The Salomon ever officiated as Count of Barcelona, while previously Sunifred I had repressed, can not be removed from the contemporary texts. Alone that Wilfried was the Hairy of the official successor of Solomon in the counties, it is believed.
