Solomon Tilewa Johnson

Right Reverend Solomon Tilewa Ethelbert Willie Johnson (preferably with the wording " Tilewa " ) ( born February 27, 1954 in Banjul, The Gambia; † January 21, 2014 in Bakau Fajara ) was Anglican Bishop of Gambia and Archbishop of the Province of West Africa.

Life

Education

Solomon Tilewa Johnson was (then Bathurst called) was born in Banjul. From 1962 to 1966 he attended primary school, and then moved to 1974 on the Gambia High School. In Nigeria, at the Trinity College in Umuahia, he earned his degree in theology (1977-1980) and the United Kingdom, at the University of Durham, his BA (Hons ) Theology; his dissertation, " The Impact of African Communal ritual on Modern Christian Missions 1821-1965 ". In August 1997, he was awarded a Certificate Summer Programme in Theology at Oxford University.

Ecclesiastical career

In 1979 he was ordained deacon in 1980 and priest. For the sixth Bishop of Gambia, he was ordained in 1990 as a successor to Jean Rigalle Elysée. He was the first bishop, who is from Gambia itself.

On September 28, 2012 Johnson became the Archbishop of the Province of West Africa selected ( also Primate of West Africa).

Miscellaneous

Johnson was married and leaves a son and two daughters. He was very active in sports, in addition to tennis, table tennis, billiards, badminton, squash, swimming, yoga and cricket he played basketball. He was a 1970 to 1977 the Gambian national basketball team.

He died during a tennis match in Fajara tennis club with only 59 years. In the Medical Research Council, where he was taken, only his death could be determined by the doctors.
