Solon is a city in the southeastern part of the Cuyahoga County in the State of Ohio and is part of the area surrounding Cleveland in the United States.

At the 2000 census, the city population was 21,802. Acting Mayor is currently Kevin C. Patton.
History
The first settlers arrived around 1820 from Connecticut to present-day municipality of Solon, which belonged to the Connecticut Western Reserve. The township was named after Lorenzo Solon Bull, son of Isaac Bull, one of the first settlers. The decisive factor was strengthened for the naming of both but was mainly the memory of Solon, the famous statesman Athens in Ancient Greece, which limited the power of the aristocracy and democracy. The model of democratic government of Greek antiquity was alive for the United States in the years after the Declaration of Independence of 1776 and is reflected in many naming of settlements in Ohio in the early 19th century resist. These include names such as Athens, Sparta East, Delphos or Aurora.
Among the difficulties that had to deal with in this area of Ohio pioneers, was one of the drainage of the marshes. These swamps in the area of Lake Erie were created at the beginning of the Holocene by the silting up of the glacial lakes at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation. Addressing these difficulties provided the settlers in Solon Township fertile ground, which could be used for growing corn and wheat and cattle farming. The area was known for its cheese production and in 1850 there were already 1,034 Solon Township residents.
