Solutré-Pouilly

Solutrense Pouilly is a small town in the south of Burgundy in the department of Saône -et -Loire, about ten kilometers west of Mâcon with 368 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). She is known by the significant finds from the middle and young Stone Age, the so-called Solutréens.

Solutrense Pouilly Fuissé belongs next to the municipalities, and Vergisson Chaintrà to the growing area of known white wine Pouilly- Fuisse in Burgundy wine country.

Solutré

At the foot of the Rock of Solutré colonization was detected over five Neolithic periods. In addition, the findings of large quantities of animal bones have a great importance for the study of Stone Age hunting methods. The finds are exhibited in a prehistoric museum in Solutré. This museum was laid out underground, so as not to disturb the overall impression of this stunning landscape, and can only be reached through a small entrance. Nevertheless, the architects to create a reference to the prehistoric place by integrated view and light shafts. Former French President François Mitterrand had made ​​it his habit to walk up every year at Easter time on this rock and to meet with his comrades of the Resistance.

The rock can be reached from the north relatively shallow rise on a hiking trail without difficulty and drops steeply at the top to three sides.
