Solvita Āboltiņa

Solvita Āboltiņa (nee Mellupe; born February 19, 1963 in Riga) is a Latvian lawyer and politician. From 2004 to 2006 she was Minister of Justice of the country, since 2010 she has been President of the Saeima. She is deputy chairman of the party Vienotība.

Biography

Solvita Āboltiņa graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Latvia in Riga. She worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, and was there among other Head of the Department of Consular Affairs.

In 2002, she was among the founders of the party New Era ( Jaunais laiks ) and headed a working group that dealt with the framework to fight corruption. For her party Āboltiņa sat from 2000-2002 in the Latvian Parliament, the Saeima, where she served as Chairman of the Legal Committee. On 2 December 2004 she was Minister of Justice in the Cabinet Kalvītis and remained so until April 7, 2006, when her party left the government coalition.

In the elections to the 9th Saeima Solvita Āboltiņa 2006 was re-elected to Parliament, she was a member of the European and the Legal Affairs Committee and Vice - President of the Saeima elected. In spring 2008, she released Einar Repše from as party chairman of Jaunais laiks. In 2010 she won a mandate for the party alliance Vienotība in the elections to the 10th Saeima. On 2 November 2010, the representatives they elected to parliament chairman. This office clothed in the 11th Saeima.

Private life

Solvita Āboltiņa speaks Latvian, English, German and Russian. She is married and has 2 children.
