SOM (missile)

SOM ( stand-off mühimmat Seyir Füzesi ) is a star border from the air to high-precision cruise missiles. It was developed under the guidance of the Science and Technology Research Council of Turkey ( TUBITAK ); he was first introduced during the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Air Forces on June 4, 2011 at the Air Force Base Çiğli in Izmir. On August 9, 2011 completing the tests with an F- 4E Phantom.

Developed since 2006 for the combat aircraft of the type F -4E 2020 and F -16 Block 40, the SOM cruise missile is the first domestic solution for the destruction of both stationary and moving targets from a stand-off distance of over 180 kilometers. Certification processes running for SOM can also be used by the F- 35.

The turbofan engines come from the cooperation of the Turkish defense companies Kale Aero (formerly Kale Havacilik ) with U.S. defense companies.
