Somali bushbaby

The Somali Galago ( Galago gallarum ) is a primate of the family of galagos ( Galagonidae ).

Features

Somalia Galagos like all Galagos very small primates. They reach a body length 13-20 centimeters, the tail is 20 to 29 centimeters longer. Their fur is gray brown, the underside is lighter. The eyes are larger than adaptation to a nocturnal lifestyle. The ears are also large, they are smooth and agile.

Distribution and habitat

Somalia Galagos are located in eastern Africa, their range includes southern Somalia, southern Ethiopia and northeastern Kenya. Their habitat is dry savannah and bush country. They inhabit drier habitats than any other Galagos, even as all other African primates.

Way of life

Little is known about the habits of these animals. They are nocturnal and move quickly climbing and jumping through the branches. They live solitary or in small groups. Their diet consists mainly of insects, possibly supplemented with tree sap.

Endangering

Somalia Galagos are adaptable and can survive in Human-influenced areas. The IUCN lists the species as a matter " not at risk " ( least concern ).
