Somali National Alliance

The Somali National Alliance ( Somali National Alliance; abbreviated SNA) was an alliance of warring parties in Somalia's civil war, which had been formed in July 1992 under the leadership of Mohammed Farah Aidid. It consisted of the out of Aidid part of the United Somali Congress, the Somali Patriotic Movement under Siad Hersi Osman Ali Ato and other warring parties in southern Somalia. The SNA turned against foreign humanitarian intervention UNOSOM / UNITAF and became the bulwark of armed resistance against the UNOSOM II Approximately 2,000-4,000 SNA fighters were involved in the Battle of Mogadishu.

After the death of Mohammed Farah Aidid in 1996 his son, Hussein Mohammed Farah became the leader of the SNA. The SNA formed the core of the 2001 Somali Reconciliation and Restoration Council, founded in SRRC.
