Somchai Wongsawat

Somchai Wongsawat ( Thai: สมชาย วงศ์ สวัสดิ์, pronunciation: [ ʰ a ː j sǒmʨ woŋsàwát ]; born August 31, 1947 in the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Southern Thailand ) was dated 17 September 2008 to December 2, 2008 Prime Minister of Thailand.

Somchai Wongsawat is married to Yaowapha Wongsawat ( Thai: เยาว ภา วงศ์ สวัสดิ์ ), a sister of Thaksin Shinawatra.

Life and career

Jurist

In 1970, Minister Somchai Wongsawat completed his studies at Thammasat University in Bangkok with a Bachelor of Law. In 1973, he became a lawyer. In 1975 he was appointed as a judge. In 1986 he was named presiding judge Somchai to the Thai province of Phang Nga. After holding various positions as a judge, then presiding judge at various provincial courts he's only judge, and finally in 1997, then became chief judge of the appeal court.

Political career

1999 to 2006 he was State Secretary in the Thai Ministry of Justice from March to September 2006, the Ministry of Labour. In 2002 he obtained a Master in Public Administration at the Thai National Institute for Economic Development. Since 2007, Somchai is vice chairman of the Phak Palang Prachachon (PPP, such as: " People's Power Party") and Member of Parliament.

In February 2008, Somchai Education Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the Cabinet of Samak Sundaravej. In the latter capacity, he was in early September 2008 first appointed acting Prime Minister after Samak was removed from office by a judgment of the Constitutional Court of the Office. On September 17, Somchai was elected by the Thai Parliament as Prime Minister. However, on 2 December 2008, the Constitutional Court ordered for election fraud to the resolution of the ruling party Phak Palang Prachachon and said Somchai and other leading PPP politicians in political activity for the next five years.
