Somero

Somero [ sɔmɛrɔ ] is a city in south-western Finland with 9237 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It lies in the east of the landscape Varsinais- Suomi. Both of Turku and from the capital Helsinki is Somero around 75 miles away. About half of the residents of Somero live in the community center.

The place Somero originated in the 14th century. The first written mention of the name Sommares Sokn dates back to 1449th in the Middle Ages led to the " Ancient Road ", a trade route from Turku in the landscape malice, by Somero. As a political community consists Somero since 1987. 1977 the town was incorporated Somerniemi. In 1990, Somero from the province of Häme in the province of Turku and Pori County, which later became the province of Western Finland. Since 1993, Somero has the status of a city.

Somero is the birthplace of several famous musicians: the singer and author Mauri Antero Numminen, the rock musician rauli " Badding " Somerjoki, Karita Mattila and the opera singer of tango composer Unto Mononen.
