Somerset Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore

Somerset Lowry - Corry, 4th Earl Belmore, GCMG, ( born April 9, 1835 in London, † April 6, 1913 in Cool Castle, Enniskillen ) was an Irish nobleman and Governor of New South Wales.

Lowry - Corry was born on 9 April 1835 as the eldest son of Armar Lowry - Corry, 3rd Earl Belmore and his wife Emily Louise Shepherd in London. After the early death of his father, the 3rd Earl Belmore, 1845, he inherited the title Earl Belmore. Lowry - Corry attended Eton College and Cambridge University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1856 and his master's degree in 1857. In the same year he was elected by the Irish peers as one of its 28 representatives in the British House of Lords, where he remained until his death. 1861 married Lowry - Corry Anna Elizabeth Honoria Gladstone. From this marriage 13 children were born.

From January 8, 1868 until February 21, 1872 Lowry - Corry was Governor of New South Wales. After his return to the UK he was born in 1872 to Knight Commander and in 1890 was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George. From 1892 until his death he was Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone. On April 6, 1913 Lowry Corry died after a long illness in Castle Cool, the family seat of the Earls Belmore.
