The Someş ( German Somes, also Samosch; Somes Hungarian ) is a river in Romania and Hungary.

On the approximately 270 kilometer long river are among other cities Rastoci, Jibou, Ulmeni, Dej and Satu Mare. At the headwaters, there are some very interesting mills.

The source flow Somesul Mare ( Big Somes ) rises in Rodnaer Mountains. It is fed by the Sieu ( Schogen ), resulted in the above- the Bistrita ( Bistrita ). In Dej is Big and Somesul Mic unite ( Small Somes ) for Somes.

After the Somes Dej flows through the Somes Highlands, standing in the numerous wooden churches, then leaving the northwest at Satu Mare Romania. It flows into the Tisza in Hungary.

The river has a catchment area of ​​15,015 km ² and an average discharge at Satu Mare of 114 m³ / s

The Someş was affected by the cyanide accident in Baia Mare on 30 January 2000.
