Sometimes (Britney Spears song)

Sometimes (English for "Sometimes ") is the second song of the U.S. pop singer Britney Spears from her debut album ... Baby One More Time that was released as a single. The song was released in spring 1999 and reached number 21 in the U.S. charts.

Background

Jörgen Elofsson claimed to have written the song; he wanted to win a BMI Award for Best Songwriter. Per Magnusson and David Kreuger produced the piece. The song is a pop ballad in B minor, and includes just about two octaves (G3 to D5 ).

In the summer of 1999, Joel Whine took over the rights for Sometimes and used the Sponsor A Walk for AIDS for the music video with the aim to donate the proceeds of the single for AIDS benefit purposes.

In early 2005, Spears and her management had to cede the rights of Sometimes in the U.S. musician Steve Wallace. Wallace explained that he had written Sometimes.

Music Video

Like its predecessor, ... Baby One More Time, also led Nigel Dick directed Sometimes. The music video was filmed in Paradise Cove in Malibu, California. Spears is looking for her love Chad Cole. She sees him on the beach and wishes she would be there with him. The video also includes dance scenes with Spears and other dancers. The video shows Spears as a " girl next door ", as already in her video for ... Baby One More Time The video was filmed on 9 and 10 April 1999. There is a second version of the video that contains only dance scenes on the beach.

Commercial success

Sometimes was published in the spring of 1999, reaching number 21 in the U.S. charts in late 1999 and number 75 in the U.S. charts of the year.

The song reached in many European countries, the top 5; Number 3 in the UK and # 6 in the German charts. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and New Zealand, the song reached number one.
