Somewhere Far Beyond is the fourth album by Blind Guardian. Production lasted from March to May 1992 was recorded at Karo Studio Brackelsberg near Hamburg. The album was released on June 29. The cover artwork was designed like on the last album by Andreas Marschall. In this album Hansi Kürsch still played bass, later he focused exclusively on singing.

Considered by many fans, the album will be called the best release of the band with which she continues to turn away from the original style and developed their own style of music. The most famous song of the band, the ballad " The Bard 's Song - In the Forest", is on this album. At the concerts of the band it is mostly sung by the fans alone. It is in the song to a ballad whose text is inspired by the works JRRTolkiens. The following song " The Bard 's Song - The Hobbit " specifically deals with Tolkien's The Hobbit. " The Quest for Tanelorn " is based on Michael Moorcock's saga of eternal heroes. "Time What Is Time " deals with the theme of the film Blade Runner or its novel " Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? ". " Somewhere Far Beyond" covers the first two volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower saga.

The two bonus songs, " Spread Your Wings" (Queen, News of the World ) and " Trial by Fire" (Satan ) are both cover versions. In " The Quest for Tanelorn " Kai Hansen plays the lead guitar.
