Son Volt

Son Volt is an independent band, which was founded in 1994 by Jay Farrar in New Orleans, Louisiana after the breakup of the band Uncle Tupelo. It is associated with the alternative country genre. Their album Trace was chosen by Rolling Stone as one of the English-language albums of the year 1995.

Style

The style moves between quiet folk and country ballads, reminiscent of Bob Dylan's John Wesley Harding, up to pub rock within the meaning of Neil Young with Crazy Horse. They are often associated with the early Wilco, the Jayhawks, and REM compared in the Automatic -for-the -People - phase.

Break

Although Son Volt Jay Farrar could indeed loud fight more artistic freedom in each album, it behaved inversely proportional with the favor of the fans. After their third album, the major label Warner Music Group terminated the contract due to lack of sales. Since 2001, published Farrar various solo recordings, however, stressed that Son Volt is not resolved. In 2005, he reformed the band, but none of the former members is out of it still there. On the independent label Transmit Sounds album Okemah and the Melody of Riot appeared.
