Song 2

April 7, 1997

Song 2 is a song by English alternative rock band Blur. The song is the second single from their fifth album Blur, which was released in April 1997. The riff -based track, which is known for its oversteering chorus, became one of the most known songs of the band.

Information

The guitarist and singer Damon Albarn commented on the debut of the song during a concert at the Royal Dublin Society in Dublin in June 1996 with the words:

" This one 's called ' Song 2 ', ' cos we have not got a name for it yet. "

" This one we called 'Song 2', so far as we have no name for him."

The working title remained until the publication exist. Supposedly this song is from Bob Nastanovich, who played in the band Pavement and is known for his expressive and energetic stage performances.

Song 2 was the second song on the album and the second single. The song is 2 minutes and 2 seconds. In the UK Top 40, he reached # 2, just as in Australia's Triple J 's Hottest 100 in 1997.

The first two stanzas of the chorus refer to paresthesia. The exact meaning is not known, but Blur is known for his idiosyncratic lyrics.

Reception

The song was meant as a parody of American grunge music. Ironically, he was played by the very music channels, whose music style parodied the song. Although the song is atypical of Blur's actual style, he became the most associated with the piece of tape.

Because of its overriding choruses and catchy exclamation " Wuu - huu " the piece has been licensed worldwide. The first and most notable use was the piece as theme music of the computer game FIFA 98 also in several commercials such as the Intel Pentium II, the Nissan Sentra and the feature film Starship Troopers it was used.

Because of its euphoric way the song is preferably used at sporting events such as football, hockey and baseball, when the home team scored a goal or a point or a game wins. At FC St. Pauli, the piece is about for years Torhymne, as with FC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Football Bundesliga and the German ice hockey league in the Eagles Mannheim.

Music Video

Sophie Muller directed the music video that shows the band in a small, enclosed room with speakers. During the chorus, the sound pressure of the speaker expresses the band members against the walls and floor. The video is similar among other things for his wallpaper background Blur's music video Popscene.
