Song Yun

Songyun (Chinese宋云/宋云, Pinyin Songyun ) was a Dunhuang ( Gansu ) originating Chinese Buddhist pilgrims from the late period of foreign domination of the Northern Wei Dynasty, together with the monk Huisheng (惠 生, Huisheng ) Central Asia and India traveled.

Life

He was 518-522 on the road and followed Dunhuang from the southern route of the Silk Road to Khotan. He returned with 170 Buddhist scriptures back to his homeland. His travelogue Weiguo yi xi Shiyi guo shi (魏国 以西 十一 国事/魏国 以西 十一 国事) is lost today. In the 5th chapter of Luoyang work qielan ji (洛阳 伽蓝 记/洛阳 伽蓝 记, Report on the Buddhist Monasteries in Luoyang ') by Yang Xuanzhi (杨 炫 之/杨 炫 之) from the 6th century, a work called Songyun jia ji (宋云 家 记 ) quotes, some consider this to be the lost book.

Songyun traveled Udyana (乌 场, Wuchang ) and Gandhara. He provided a valuable report on the White Huns or Hephthalites, which was then ruled Bactria and Gandhara had conquered.
