Sonia Silvestre

Sonia Margarita Silvestre Ortiz ( born August 16, 1952 in San Pedro de Macoris ) is a Dominican singer.

Biography

Silvestre came with her family in 1963 to Santo Domingo, where he studied education at the Universidad Pedro Enriquez Ureña, before she made her debut in the produced by Freddy Ginebra for Radio Televisión Dominicana Gente mission as a singer in 1970. She became famous in 1971 as a participant in the IV Festival de la Canción Dominicana, in which they finished second, titled Dónde podré grit arte que te quiero by Leonor Porchella de Brea, and as a finalist in the Festival de la Canción in Bogotá. Then they released their first LP Esta es Sonia Silvestre.

In 1973 she undertook at the invitation of the Consejo Nacional de Cultura with Víctor Víctor and the Orquesta Irakere a concert tour of Cuba. She gave concerts in Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Spain, Colombia, Mexico and the United States and appeared on TV programs such as farándula (1973). She is successful as an interpreter of ballads, socially conscious songs and folk music and performed with Luis Días as an interpreter of Bachata. She received several times the Premios El Dorado, in 1990 the Premio Casandra and 1991 as an international artist in Puerto Rico the Premio Paoli.
