Sonisphere Festival

The Sonisphere Festival is a music festival, rock occur in the mainly bands from the metal and hard. It is not held every year at a certain location in contrast to conventional music festivals, but goes with different bands on an international tour.

History

The festival is organized by Stuart Galbraith and his company Kilimanjaro. Galbraith organized, among others, in the early 80's the Monsters of Rock Festival and since 2003 its successor, the Download Festival in Donington Park, England. 2008 Galbraith announced a festival with a similar orientation as the Download Festival. Already at that time two or three international locations were being considered.

2009

In 2009, the festival took place in various places in Europe as a one day festival Nijmegen (Netherlands ) at the Hockenheimring ( Germany ), Barcelona ( Spain), Hultsfred ( Sweden), Pori ( Finland) and Knebworth (England). The premiere was the festival in Goffert Park in the Dutch Nijmegen on 20 June 2009.

Among the bands that were in the first edition of the Sonisphere here in 2009, include:

Saturn Stage: Saturday: Bullet for My Valentine, Airbourne, The Used, Björn Again, Skindred, Soil Sunday: Avenged Sevenfold, Alice in Chains, Feeder, Mastodon, Saxon, Paradise Lost

Metallica, Mastodon and Lamb Of God occurred in all six the 2009 festival.

2010

2010 was followed, in addition to an expanded three day festival in the UK, events in Switzerland and Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, Greece, Sweden, Spain, the Czech Republic and Poland. In Germany and Holland no Sonisphere Festival took place in 2010. Among the artists that have been announced for the 2010 edition, were again represented well-known hard rock and metal bands Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Motorhead and Iggy & The Stooges. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer or Anthrax played as part of the Sonisphere Festival on 15 June for the first time together as "The Big Four of Thrash " in Poland at a festival. The recording of the performance on 22 June 2010 at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia was broadcast live in 450 theaters in the U.S. and in 350 other cinemas in Europe, Canada and Latin America as well as Konzert-DVD/Blu-Ray entitled The Big Four Live From Sofia, Bulgaria published. Together, the four bands played at the gig the song Am I Evil? of the band Diamond Head.

2011

For 2011, 12 festivals were announced. The planned festival in Bulgaria was canceled due to logistical problems.

2012

2012 Sonisphere was carried out at five locations, where there was no festival in the UK for the first time. The plan was the event for the July 6 to 8, on March 29, it was canceled. The headliners were Metallica in 2012, which does not, however, occurred in France:
