Sonnenberg Castle

The Sonnenberg Castle located in Lauchetal in the community Stettfurt, in the district of Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

The castle is first mentioned in 1242 as Sunnunbergh. It was the seat of reichenauischen family of Sonneberg. After changing owners and after a fire Jost Zollikofer built from Sankt Gallen, the present castle in 1596 again. In 1678 it came as a Lieutenancy in the possession of the monastery of Einsiedeln.

2007 bought by the Austrian financier Christian Baha, the castle and the associated farm estate with 150 hectares of farmland, meadows, forests and vineyards. At present the castle is being restored and rebuilt. In 2009, traces of settlement dating from the fourth century BC found at work.
