Sonor (Latin sonorous, deep ',' sonorous ') is a German company based in Bad Berleburg - Aue, the percussion instruments in the areas of drums, percussion, marching band music, concert and Orff, as well as matching accessories produced.

Corporate Development

In 1875 Sonor in Weissenfels an der Saale by Drechsler Johannes Link (b. 1847 in Forheim ) founded as a manufacturer of natural eardrums and military drums. Three years later, the company expanded its production site and moved to the Leipziger Straße. The production was further increased. Around the turn of the century (1900) began, even timpani, Cross drums, xylophones, cymbals, triangles and smaller percussion instruments produce.

1907 Sonor has been registered as a trademark with the Imperial Patent Office in Munich. 1914 died the founder Johannes Link, was succeeded by his son Otto Link. Despite the turmoil of World War II, the company opened a second factory in Mark Neukirchen. Two years later, the parent plant in the Leipziger Straße was largely destroyed by a fire. To compensate for the loss of assets quickly, the nearby factory plant was acquired " Am Bad " in Weissenfels. 1925, the company employed about 145 people already. Around this time appeared the first Sonor drums catalog, 1930, the first catalog only with jazz instruments.

After the Second World War the company's property was expropriated, nationalized later. Otto Link narrowly escaped an imminent arrest and decided together with his son Horst Link to flee to West Berlin. Otto Links wife also later managed to escape. Therefore, the company they founded in 1946 in Westphalia Aue new. 1950 already appeared the first Sonor drums catalog with 13 pages. Appeared in 1952, the second with 31 pages. In 1953 they took Orff instruments in the product range. When Otto Link died in 1955, the line of Sonor went over to his son Horst Link. This the company wanted to lead back to former glory and built the production and the product range continuously. Was published in 1956, the third Sonor-Schlagzeug/Musikinstrumentenkatalog with over 100 pages. Some of the best known jazz stars of the time such as Kenny Clarke, Connie Cay or even Lionel Hampton then played Sonor instruments.

In 1991 he was the connection to the Hohner Group, 1997, the company cooperated with the Taiwanese -run KHS group of companies. The production of cheap drums and percussion components was moved to Tianjin in China. In 2000 Sonor celebrated its 125th anniversary.
