Sonora Matancera

Sonora Matancera is a Cuban band. The Guinness Book of World Records lists them as a group playing together for the longest time.

Career

La Sonora Matancera was founded in 1932 and originated from the previous band Septeto Soprano, which was headed by Valentin Cane. The founding members were Valentin Cane, bassist Pablo " Babu " Vasquez, vocalist Eugene Perez, Manuel Timbalesspieler " Jimagua " Sánchez, trumpet player Ismael Goberna and guitarists Domingo Medina, José Manuel Valera, Julio Gobin, and Juan Llopiz Baptist. In more than seven decades there have been numerous personnel changes in the group. In the group Raúl Planas, Daniel Santos, Bienvenido Granda, Nelson Pinedo, Alberto Beltrán, Bobby Capo, Carlos Argentino and Celia Cruz sang. The original director Valentin Cane led the group until the early 1930s forced him health problems, to put to rest. Initially under the name Septeto Soprano known, the name La Sonora Matancera 1932 was adopted. The group left Cuba at the approach of the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s and settled in the 1960s in New York, where she continued to play. In 2006, it is led by more than 90 -year-old guitarist and singer Regelio Martínez.

Musical Style

The group is known that it employs trumpets harmonious way. This is for example expressed in the name Sonora. Puerto Rican groups such as Sonora Ponceña imitated their style. Other stylistic elements from La Sonora Matancera the use of bongos and drums batá the accordion and Hammond organ part. The band was also known by the nasal voice of her background singer Manuel Díaz Alonso, " Caito ", which was later imitated by famous salsa artists such as Oscar D' León.
