Geography

Sontheim is located about 15 km east of Memmingen in the Danube -Iller region in central Bavaria.

Expansion of the municipal area

The municipality consists of the districts Sontheim and Attenhausen.

The municipality Sontheim include the eight officially designated community Parts Sontheim, Attenhausen, mining, Grabus, high Stetten, Lauber, Lindenhöf and Ziegler. The place name Lindenhöf was only granted on 10 July 2000 by decision of the District Office Unterallgaeu. Only Attenhausen located in the same district, the remaining districts in the district Sontheim. Official maps show still other districts such as Bach Weber ( district Sontheim ) or wood Bauer ( district Attenhausen ).

History

Sontheim was first documented in 838 and belonged to the kingdom of pin Ottobeuren. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818 the municipality Sontheim.

Incorporations

Culture and sights
