Soot blower

Soot blowers are used for flue gas side cleaning of heating surface tubes in fossil and biomass- fired boilers by steam.

Through the combustion process occur on these tubes coverings ( especially fly ash and soot, these vary greatly depending on the fuel used ), they affect the heat transfer in the boiler negative and thus abate the system efficiency.

In many designs sootblowers are designed as a pipe which has a predetermined number of exit holes, and is guided along the heating surfaces. In this tube steam is passed, which escapes from the holes directed towards the heating surfaces. Thus they are exempt from fly ash and soot.

Steam is used for two reasons: first, to to prevent thermal stresses, the cleaning action does not cool down the heating surfaces noticeably (which would be the case for water). Secondly, no materials may be used that would affect the sustainable combustion ( eg, air).

There are different types of soot blowers:

  • Wall blowers: These are used to clean dirt from the wall heating.
  • Helical: These clean the heat exchangers with heavy pollution, the blow pipe remains in the flue.
  • Sootblower: These clean the heat exchangers with heavy pollution and high flue gas temperatures, while the lance tube with two opposite high-performance nozzles at Blasbeginn is driven by steam screwing into the boiler. It is primarily used for the purification of superheaters.
  • Rotary kiln wind: These clean the heat exchangers with light soiling, with the blowpipe in the flue remains and performs pure rotation.
  • Pendulum brass: These clean the heat exchangers with heavy pollution and high flue gas temperatures.
  • Travers blowers: These clean the surface banks in DeNOx plants and air pre-heaters, wherein the blowing element remains in the flue and a pure advance movement performs.
  • Axial fan: This clean heat exchangers with heavy pollution from pure advance movement.
  • Two fabric blower: This clean gas and air preheaters with steam or air and water, the blowing element remains in the preheater and performs a pure advance movement.
