Sophie Hosking

Sophie Hannah Marguerite Hosking, MBE ( born January 25, 1986 in Edinburgh) is a British rower and Olympic champion in 2012 in the lightweight double sculls.

Her father David Hosking was 1980 World Champion with the British lightweight eights. Sophie Hosking rowing since 1999, she won at the Junior World Championships in 2003 to second place in the four without coxswain. In 2006 she won the silver medal in the lightweight single sculls at the U -23 World Championships, at the World Rowing Championships in 2006 she received the lightweight four with coxswain the bronze medal in the following year the quartet took second place and 2008 in Linz came the boat to fourth place. From 2009 to 2011 Hosking rowed with Hester Goodsell in the lightweight double sculls at the 2009 World Championships, the two occupied the third place. 2010 was followed by the fifth place, in 2011 they won the bronze again.

2012 reached Hosking along with Katherine Copeland took second place at the World Cup in Belgrade and was in the other two World Cup races Fifth and Fourth. In the Olympic final in front of a home crowd, the two winning ahead of the boats from China and Greece.

Sophie Hosking starts for the London Rowing Club, she is 1,65 m tall. At the end of 2012 Sophie Hosking was appointed to the Order of the British Empire.
