Sophus Nielsen

Sophus Erhard " Krølben " Nielsen ( born March 15, 1888 in Copenhagen, † August 6, 1963 ) was a Danish footballer. He was the first player to reach ten goals in an official 'A' game.

Career

Nielsen played most of his career at BK Frem København. Between 1910 and 1911, he and his brother Pete Nielsen for Holstein Kiel on the court. Both were the first foreign player of the club.

For the Danish national team attacker graduated from 1908-1919 a total of 20 games, scoring 16 goals. Ten of them he shot on October 22, 1908 semi-final game of the Olympic tournament with a 17-1 victory over France. This scoring record was the German Gottfried Fuchs set four years later at the next Olympic tournament, both were surpassed in 2001 by the Australian Archie Thompson.

Nielsen won the Olympic tournament in 1908 the silver medal (0-2 in the final against the United Kingdom). Four years later, the Olympic tournament in Stockholm he won silver again and had to play in the final turn, the British admit defeat ( 2:4 ).
