History
The Sopot Forest Opera
At the beginning of the 20th century there was a Sopot Festival ( German: Sopot Festival ), but with a different orientation than in the present. It was launched in 1909 and persisted until 1944. From 1922, particularly the operas of Richard Wagner were brought to the performance. They took place in an open-air theater in the middle of the forest, hence the name " Forest Opera " for this festival. Because of their quality and uniqueness of the performances reached soon international recognition. Was praised by visitors also perceived as magical quality of the course.
Międzynarodowy Festiwal Piosenki
After the war, Władysław Szpilman founded in 1961 the then Międzynarodowy Festiwal Piosenki. The first festival was held to 27 October 1963 by the 25th.
1979 Boney M performed with the song Rasputin. The television aired the program from only a day later and has cut out this controversial song.
