Soppensee

The Soppensee is a lake in Lucerne red valley ( canton of Lucerne) in Switzerland.

Location

The lake and its surroundings are located on the territory of the municipality Buttisholz. The water surface has an area of ​​0227 km ². The surface level is at 596 m above sea level. The Soppensee has in NW / SE direction, a maximum length of 800 m, transversely to a maximum width of 400 m. The maximum depth of the lake is 27 m.

Formation

The result of Soppensee is after the last ice age when the glaciers retreated from the Central Plateau about 15,000 years ago. Owes its name to the lake the marshy bristle grass ( Nardus stricta ), which is called depending on the area burst, Nätsch or Soppa.

Use

The lake property has for centuries been privately owned by the family Pfyffer - Feer. This includes 75 of the arene shore terrain. The crabs from the Soppensee are considered a delicacy. The lake is leased to the fishing company Soppensee.
