Sorbey (Meuse)

Sorbey is a commune of 246 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meuse in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Verdun and the Canton Spincourt.

Geography

Sorbey is located northeast of Verdun on the border with the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1163 as Sorbei and was completely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War in 1646 by French troops. In the last century it had three times as many inhabitants as it is today.
