History

Sorrento Calcio was, therefore, founded in 1945 shortly after the end of World War II. First, the club played in the lower leagues. In the late sixties Sorrento Calcio became known to a wider audience for the first time, as you get into the series D, then the fourth- highest division in the Italian football, climb. There, the player of Sorrento Calcio shot the most goals of all the teams in this league and succeeded in the very first season of promotion to Serie C before FC Turris. As the two teams were tied at the top, a play about the rise was necessary, the Sorrento won 1-0. In series C, the success story of Sorrento Calcio went on, as the club held the class by a fourth place and was even close to the rank advancement. This Sorrento was, among other things today first and second division as U.S. Lecce, FC Crotone and Pescara Calcio behind him, but the rise secured the U.S. Casertana, alongside U.S. Avellino one of the biggest rivals of Sorrento Calcio. The following year, Sorrento Calcio won the first place in the Girona C with one point ahead Salernitana Calcio and the first time was thus in its history in Serie B, thus ascend to the second highest Italian football league. With players like Giuseppe Bruscolotti, later Italian masters with the SSC Napoli, however, you had to descend directly back by a last place, while the Mitaufsteiger Reggiana and Genoa were able to hold in the second division.

This descent decreased the popularity of Sorrento Calcio, which was enormous for professional club due to the almost meteoric rise from provincial club, as the club in the coming years could qualify for the B series is not over and for many years remained in the C series. When the series C was divided into Serie C1 ( third- highest division ) and Serie C2 ( fourth highest league) in 1978, Sorrento had to play in the latter division in the following season, as you in the crucial season only the 14th in the series C had occupied and only teams that had at least reached rank 12, qualified for the Serie C1. The following year, the club had to withdraw despite an achieved rank fifth in the series C2, because he had financial difficulties.

Thus, a new start in the series D was needed. In the following years, Sorrento Calcio even increased several times into regional leagues before 2006, the return to the Serie C2 succeeded.
