Sotra

Sotra is an island west of Bergen in Norway, with an area of 246 km ² and a population of 26 211.

The northern portion of the island belongs to the municipality Fjell and the southern part of the municipality Sound. Popularly Sotra also includes the island Bildøy and Litlesotra ( " Kleinsotra "). In the north are the islands of Sotra Turøy and Misje. To the north lies the municipality Øygarden.

The highest elevation of the island is called Liatårnet.

History

On the island was a fortress during the German occupation of Norway. Remains of the system of Fjell festning of 1942/43, are still visible. The inhabitants of the place were Telavåg on April 30, 1942 the victim of a criminal action, the Gestapo and the SS
