Souad Mekhennet

Souad Mekhennet (born 1978 in Frankfurt ) is a German journalist. She works for The New York Times, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and ZDF. Previously, she worked for The Washington Post, the Frankfurter Rundschau, the Hessischer Rundfunk and the newspaper The week for the ARD studio in Morocco and in Hamburg for the Hamburg Morgenpost, the star and the time. Since September 11, 2001, she reported on the conflicts in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

She attended the Henri Nannen School of Journalism in Hamburg and studied at the Johann -Wolfgang- Goethe- University Frankfurt am Main political science. Both her parents are from Morocco and Turkey.

Work

Mekhennet was one of two journalists who published the first article on the case of Khaled el- Masri.

Together with Michael Moss she can talk with leaders of al - Qaeda in the Maghreb on the motives of the jihadists.

She is co-author of the books Children of Jihad and Islam.

Awards

2012 received Mekhennet together with Elmar Theveßen the German Television Award for the Manual 9 / 11th
