Soucht

Soucht ( German addiction ) is a commune with 1145 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Canton Rohrbach- lès -Bitche.

Geography

The village is located about 15 km south-west of Bitche in the northern Vosges. It is almost assembled to the northeast subsequent neighboring Meisenthal. For landscape maintenance threatened by bush encroachment meadows grazed by Soucht of Scottish Highlanders.

History

In 1629 was a glassmaker from Münzthal granted approval to establish a new facility. As an anecdote is narrated, the sovereign had on the question of the glass -maker, where he should settle down, replied: " addiction! » ( = You are looking for ). This would later become the name of the settlement. The glazing of Soucht survived the Thirty Years War as only one of the many glassworks in Bitscher country. As against 1700, however, the available in the area of wood was consumed, the operation moved to Meisenthal and continued there until 1969. Prior to 1930, the craft of clog developed in Soucht. Wooden shoes ( in Lorraine Platt Humpty ) were at that time in the regional glass and metallurgical industries as footwear and protection from the hot liquids in much use. A final once over of 60 wooden shoemakers (fr: sabotier ) is still active in Soucht today.

Culture and sights

A mill from the 17th century since 1892 out of service. The parish church of St. Vierge was built in 1770; it is home to three glass chandeliers and a Way of the Cross presentation. The museum of wooden shoe production was set up in a workshop faithfully preserved.

Traffic

  • Soucht is located on the Départementalstraße 83 Meisenthal - Rahling.
  • 1897, the spur track of Wingen after Münzthal was built and also Soucht received a station. With the decline of the glass industry, the railway line was shut down in 1969.
